Bagging for Mercy

I went to the first meeting this week of Arlingtonians for a Cleaner Environment (ACE) that I've been to in over a year. It was a committee meeting to work on a recyclable bag project. It was fun and I learned a lot.

Ideally, all of us would bring our own bags wherever we went shopping - the mall & the pharmacy included. It's easier to do when the trip is planned, but few people I know set out to CVS on more than a moment's notice. The US is behind on this issue -- in some European countries, it's standard practice to bring your own bags. Meanwhile, on this side of the pond, we annually trash over a billion plastic grocery sacks alone.
